In Tennessee, a husband allegedly stabbed and burned his wife, but her family says that strangers came to her aid and saved her life.

Authorities in Tennessee say that Zachary Mowel, 28, hurt his wife on July 1 evening, according to a news statement.

When the police arrived, they found a woman who had been stabbed several times and took her to the hospital. Soon after, Mowel was caught by TBI agents and charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated arson, aggravated assault (domestic-related), and domestic attack.

Unfortunately, it’s not clear yet if Mowel has pleaded guilty or hired a lawyer.

After some time, the victim’s family recognized her as Tess Trotter. Their sister Tori Trotter wrote on a GoFundMe page set up to help pay for their medical bills that the attack happened in front of their young children, who were “watching and pleading” for the attacker to stop.

Tina Trotter, the victim’s mother, told WSMV that two people saw an item on Facebook Marketplace in the area and came across the house fire. The mother said that they put out the fire that was engulfing Tessa, which saved her life.

“God bless you,” Tina told the news source. “I will get in touch with you as soon as my family learns who you are.” “Thank you so much, our family wouldn’t have her today without you.”

Police records that were filed in court and used by WKRN say that Mowel told an officer who arrived at the scene, “I did it.” “It was me.”

The GoFundMe page says that the attack left Tessa helpless from the waist down and gave her third-degree burns. The page says she had nine stab wounds and all of her ribs were broken.

“This torture was not fair to Tessa or her boys. She is the strongest person I know,” her sister wrote on the page.
